My name is Ross Lopes. I was born in 1996 and reside in the Greater Toronto Area in Canada. I have an Advanced Diploma in Journalism with Honours from Humber College & have a Bachelor of Public Relations in 2022 from the same school. Both were attained with honours.
I was always an eager reader & storyteller. My first set of books I remember collecting were the notorious Captain Underpants saga. Another stellar set of books I read were the Geronimo Stilton collection. Advancing my fiction intake, I moved towards A Series of Unfortunate Events and continued climbing the latter to young adult — such as being part of the readers for the Pretty Little Liars saga and The Hunger Games.
My first entry to publishing came when I was in my last year of high school, at the young age of 17. I had entered a short story contest and ended up winning. My prize was having my short story published in Polar Express Publishing’s annual short-story collection book. This was during the time where my love for writing fiction started to take flight. I also was part of the yearbook committee at my high school at the time and wrote a couple pages for the 2014 edition.
During the years of reading, I dabbled in story writing. I would get these ideas for a novel, write out the plot and character development, create a Word document and write the first chapter. But, being a middle-schooler & high-school teenager, other life events would take hold and distract me. Unfortunately, those stories never got past the first 10 pages. It wasn’t until after I won the short-story contest when I dedicated my time to properly finish a novel.
And so I did. Spending every evening after school, weekend mornings and nights, and even during the late hours of a weekday school-night, I would be hunched over my laptop, furiously tapping at the buttons to get my story on paper. It worked, and by the time I graduated in 2014, I had a fully fleshed out novel. Granted, it was high school grade level writing, but it was completed nonetheless.
With this new determination and passion for writing, I continued honing my craft through post-secondary and ultimately created three more additional novels in a set of a trilogy, and plan on publishing them traditionally in time. In addition, I have continued to build a Rolodex of my published work through the years (which can be viewed here).
Through this website, I hope to connect and network with industry professionals (in all avenues of communication) and share my current and past work in relation to public relations, communication, and journalism.
